The North Tiverton Fire District is seeking a water system operator/ laborer, Class T-1 and D-1 RI Drinking Water Operator licenses preferred. Persons without licenses are encouraged to apply. This is an ideal opportunity for an applicant with related experience (water main construction laborer, plumbing, maintenance, etc.). Responsibili- ties include; installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of the water system distribution and treat- ment facilities, components and mains including pipe, valves, hy- drants, pumps, electrical controls, chemical feed systems, etc. Work- ing in trenches in all weather condi- tions required. Respond to system alarms and emergencies on a 24- hour, 7-day per week rotating basis, with a maximum response time of 20 minutes. Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
