EAST PROVIDENCE — East Providence Police, Friday, Aug. 15, released a sketch of the suspect in the murder of a city man two days earlier.

In releasing the rendering, EPPD Detective Captain Richard Frazier said the suspect is a black male, aged between late 30s and early 40s, at an approximated height of 5-feet-11, and weighing about 180 pounds. He was wearing a camouflage jacket at the time of the shooting, when the suspect murdered 42-year-old Yusef A’Vant in his barbershop on 2402 Pawtucket Ave., Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 13.

Capt. Frazier confirmed to a point a statement made Thursday, Aug. 14, about the case by EPPD Chief Christopher Parella, who said Mr. A’Vant, the owner/operator of the “Krazy Kuts” barbershop and salon, was targeted for killing.

“We don’t know that for sure, but that’s what we believe to have happened at this point in the investigation,” Capt. Frazier said. “We’re still looking into that among other leads.”

The sketch artist’s rendition of the suspect was culled from eyewitnesses of the incident, which took place mid-afternoon Wednesday at about 2 p.m. Capt. Frazier, once again, declined to comment on how the suspect fled the location. Witnesses said he left by car.
