Two BHS grads ranked in top 20 for college throwers

Adam Kelly and Michael Alvernaz were standouts at Barrington

A few years ago, Adam Kelly and Michael Alvernaz were leading the Barrington High School track team to dual meet and postseason titles.

Now the two BHS graduates are helping their college teams to victories. Both men were also recently ranked in the top 20 among college throwers — Kelly, a junior at Princeton, is ranked fourth nationally, while Alvernaz, a junior at Troy, is ranked 16th.

Kelly had one of his best recent throws at the UNF Spring Break meet held at the University of North Florida in Jackson, Fla. in late March. With his second hammer throw of the meet, Kelly tallied a first place distance of 228 feet, 7 inches (69.68 meters).

On the same day, Alvernaz won the hammer throw event at the Samford Alabama Track Challenge in Birmingham, Ala. with a top distance of 204 feet, 3 inches (62.25 meters). Alvernaz's throw also set a new meet record.
