TIVERTON — A large throng of dignitaries and invited guests gathered at the new Tiverton Casino's ribbon cutting and grand opening on Thursday morning.

"Clearly, no celebration would have occurred without the support of the residents of Tiverton," said Twin River Worldwide Holdings, Inc. Executive Chairman John Taylor Jr.,

"So I begin by thanking all of the residents of Tiverton. Thank you for inviting us into your home and backyard, for having an honest, open dialogue about what might be possible and for supporting the idea that a more convenient, easily accessible casino just might prove more successful for the State." he said at a podium under the casino's grand entrance.

After a host of speakers and the ribbon cutting, guests were allowed access to the casino and to play slots and table games.

Casino representatives greeted guests with friendly faces and t-shirts. Dealers and game workers helped explain some of the more complicated games like craps and black jack. Many of the guests went straight to the casino's 1000 slot machines to try their luck.

The 85,000 square foot casino and adjoining 84 room hotel represents an investment of $140 million in the local economy and features 1000 slot machines, 32 game tables, a sit down restaurant and a vibrant food court.

The casino officially opens to the public on Saturday, September 1.
