Town celebrates its tricentennial

Posted

Barrington celebrated its 300th anniversary with a founders day birthday party on Saturday, Nov. 18.

The celebration started on the front steps of the public library with a "Salute to 1717." Dr. Van Edwards, historian and chairman of Barrington 300, served as town cryer and read the text of the decree establishing Barrington as a town. Resident Jeff Howe served as town courier.

The event later moved inside the library auditorium for welcoming remarks and the recognition of volunteers who helped with the year-long celebration.

Finally, the event moved to the library gallery for a reception, where there was music and refreshments.
