School committee chairwoman wins leadership award

Kate Brody honored by Rhode Island Association of School Committees

Kate Brody, chairwoman of the Barrington School Committee, was awarded the 2018 Howard Kay Award at the Rhode Island Association of School Committees' annual meeting on May 5.  The award is given annually for outstanding school committee leadership.

Ms. Brody was nominated by her fellow school committee members who, in their nomination letter, praised Kate’s accomplishments, stating “Kate is a leader and advocate for public education who brings enthusiasm wherever she goes. She is the consummate public servant who is 100 percent dedicated to serving the students of Barrington’s schools, the taxpayers of Barrington, and the educational community in Rhode Island.”

Ms. Brody has participated in more than 300 hours of professional development through the Rhode Island Association of School Committees and is a member of their Master’s Academy.

RIASC is dedicated to developing the effectiveness of Rhode Island school committee members in meeting their role and responsibilities in promoting student achievement in safe and challenging learning environments, while playing a leading part in shaping and advocating public education policy at the local, State and national levels.
