More than 75 riders raised nearly $11,000 in the annual Cycle for Your Cause at the Bayside YMCA on Saturday afternoon.

Riders pedaled on indoor bikes set up in the Bayside YMCA gymnasium for a total of 1,745 miles to raise money to support a variety of programs and services. Each team of riders chose a specific YMCA program to champion and collected donations from family, friends and the community.

This years Cycle for Your Cause event featured 10 teams. Teams were comprised of a mix of volunteers, staff and community members.

The Pedaling for Parkinsons team, led by Geri Purcell, raised money for the Pedaling for Parkinsons program which is a new indoor cycling program for individuals with Parkinsons that helps to slow the onset of symptoms, as well as reduce current symptoms of this disease.

The Manitoo Maniacs, led by Jill Nestell, and Team Staff Infection, led by Greg Wright, rode to raise scholarship money to send children to summer camp at Camp Manitoo.

Team Tri supported the Race 4 Chase Youth Triathlon program — a 6-week, free triathlon training program developed and supported by the CMAK Foundation from Connecticut. Team Tri had the youngest rider (7-year-old Annabel) and also the rider who rode the most miles during the 3 hour event — 10-year-old Finn. The Bayside Warriors, led by Chris Barton and Nicole Dominguez, and the Cycle Paths, led by Olivia Spence, also sponsored the Race 4 Chase program.

Team Tortuga, led by Bayside YMCA Operation Director Tricia Driscoll, rode to support Livestrong at the Y — a free 12-week program to help cancer survivors regain their strength after treatment. Les Costa of Team Tortuga was the lead fund-raiser, collecting more than $1,200 in donations for his team.

Team Tour de USA, led by Jean Ernster, Team Regulators, led by Sarah Atwood, and Team Not Fast, Just Furious led by Cindy Roccabello all rode to support Healthy Living programs at the Y.

At the end of the event, Regional Executive Director of the Bayside Family YMCA Michael Squatrito announced that more than 220 donations were received, totaling almost $11,000.

"This event highlights what the Y is all about — healthy living, youth development and social responsibility," said Mr. Squatrito. "The riders come out here and pedal their hearts out, while raising money for causes they believe in. I am so grateful that kids, older adults, families and friends all showed up today to support some amazing causes. This is why I love the YMCA!"
