Rev. Richard T. Laremore, 92, of Barrington

Rev. Richard T. Laremore, 92, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of the late Ila (Winterbottom Johnston). Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Ellen (Elliott) Laremore.

Dick was the Rector at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Barrington for 24 years and served at many parishes in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He also faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, after his ordination as a chaplain in the RI National Guard, and until his retirement as a Lt. Colonel in 1978.

He is survived by his daughters Judith Germain (Frank) of Bradenton, Fla., Deborah White (LeRoy) of Austin Texas, and his son Douglas Johnston (Sherri) of Barrington. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late William Laremore of Guilderland, NY.

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m., at St. Matthew and Mark Episcopal Church, 5 Chapel Road, Barrington. A private burial will follow. Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, at Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Avenue, Riverside. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Matthew & Mark Church, 5 Chapel Road, Barrington 02806 or the Episcopal Conference Center, 872 Reservoir Road, Pascoag, RI 02859. A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
