More than 20 residents have signed contracts; town reaches tier 3 pricing

Posted

The continued demand for residential solar in Barrington means that residents interested in solar can now expect to save as much as 20 or 25 percent off their solar costs as part of the Solarize Barrington program.

Recently, Solarize Barrington reached “Tier 3” pricing, and as a result, residents can expect significant savings and discounted pricing for any solar contract signed during the program.

The 24 contracts which have been signed to date, totaling more than 150 kilowatts, will lower prices and increase savings for all Barrington residents that are part of the group-buying model and neighbor to neighbor community outreach.

“The town is thrilled to see so many people in the community going solar," said Barrington Town Manager Jim Cunha. "Barrington has made significant strides in becoming a greener community since we first participated in the Solarize program in 2015. We started with just a handful of rooftop PV installations and this has grown to more than 150 in less than three years."

Solarize Barrington, a partnership between the Office of Energy Resources, the Town of Barrington and non-profit SmartPower, drives down the cost of installations of small-scale solar systems through a group purchasing model.

Solarize Barrington has been embraced by the community, and residents have been signing up at community events including a recent solar open house tour featuring four solar projects in town.

"We have deep environmental commitments and we want to instill similar commitments in our children,” said Barrington residents Mark and Min Cladis. “Getting solar panels makes a lot of sense for us—and SolPower has expertly and painlessly helped us to achieve that. The decision to go solar makes good financial sense, too."

Residents who would like to participate should sign up soon, before the April 27 contract signing deadline.
