Freshman fires a 155 for the two-day tournament

The Rhode Island High School State golf champion was crowned last Wednesday afternoon, May 30, at the Cranston Country Club. Moses Brown took home the team championship, their fourth title in the past five years shooting a 617 (+49). Bishop Hendricken (Runner-up) and Wheeler (third place) rounded out the top three in team competition.

After placing third in last year’s tournament, Barrington missed this years team cut by just one stroke.

Although the team didn’t make the cut, Barrington had two golfers qualify for the individual championship — Junior Brendan Fay who shot a 156 (+14) for the tournament and freshman Connor Sullivan who had a top-10 finish, shooting 155 (+13) through the tournament's two rounds.

“I played well. I had a couple bad holes but other than that I played well,” Sullivan said. “I was happy. I’m only a freshman so it was a good accomplishment for me as an individual.”

The experience for the freshman was different than any other in his golf career being that this was the biggest tournament he’s played in thus far. Sullivan says he has he work ethic and preparation to thank for his success.

“It’s different. I feel like my preparation has led me here, it’s the biggest tournament of my life so far,” said Sullivan. “I wanted to break 80 both days and after I shot 76 (in round one) I knew I could shoot low. My goal at the end of the day was top ten.”
