Penelope Anson Steele Crouch, “Penny,” passed away at the age of 75. Penny lived at 307 Sowams Road, in Barrington, with her son’s family for the last four months, but previously resided in Tampa, Fla. for many years. She passed away from colon cancer, at home on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018. 

Penny was born on Feb. 22, 1943 at the army hospital in Fort Still, Oklahoma. She was the eldest daughter of Edward Lee Steele and Sara Helen Ballenger Steele. She grew up in North Carolina and South Carolina. Penny was a drum majorette in high school, and attended Furman University in Greenville, SC, as well as Palmer Business College in Augusta, Ga. She was the widow to Jesse William Crouch of Jacksonville, Fla.

Penny was selected out of hundreds of applicants to work at Delta Airlines, and worked at Nissan Motor Corporation as an executive assistant for over ten years. She also started her own company, Office Options; and, worked over the last few years from home, specializing in graphic design, accounting, and payroll services. Penny enjoyed decorating, especially floral decorations and collecting crystal collectibles. Penny was known for her “southern charm,” quick wit, and good sense of humor.

Penny is survived by her only son, Gregory Carlton Grant, and his wife Jennifer Rose Tamburro Grant; her three grandchildren, Allyson Rose, Aidan Patrick, and Ava Noelle Grant; her sister, Nancy Lee Steele Frazier; and her niece and nephew, Addie Lee Frazier Snotherly, and James Morgan Frazier; and cousin, Nancy Carol Turkett Grigsby.

A private family gathering will be held this week to honor Penny. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Hope Hospice, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
