Nicholas D. 'Nicky' Marcello, 87, of Barrington

Nicholas D.“Nicky” Marcello, age 87, of Barrington, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018 at The Friendly Home with his beloved family by his side. He was the loving husband of the late Elaine M. (Fiore) Marcello, with whom he was married to for 51 years. 

Born in Barrington, a son of the late Guiseppe and Assunta (Tanzi) Marcello, he was a life-long resident of Barrington and a communicant of Holy Angels Church. 

A graduate of Barrington High School, Class of 1949, he served in the RI Air National Guard for seven years. He worked as a lace weaver for many years before retiring. Nicky was a member of ALOA, he was an avid golfer, loved to play the guitar, enjoyed country music, watching the Boston Red Sox and especially loved spending time with his favorite people, his three grandchildren. 

He is survived by two daughters, Paula S. Vennard and her husband Robert of Upton, Mass. and Diane M. Dawson and her husband Daniel of Cumberland; three grandchildren, Brian and Katherine Vennard and Connor Dawson; brothers-in-law, Anthony Fiore and Joseph Motta; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the father of the late Susan E. Marcello and brother of the late Amelia Thivierge and Louise Motta.

His funeral will be held on Friday, Dec. 21, at 9 a.m. from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Parish, 341 Maple Ave., Barrington, RI 02806. Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Santa Maria del Campo, Barrington. Contributions may be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
