While parking lot is being re-paved, officials close school grounds

Posted

The Nayatt School grounds, including the playground equipment and ball fields, are closed to the public for the next month and a half.

Barrington Superintendent of Schools Michael Messore said on Thursday morning, July 5, that the elementary school property is off-limits while crews dig up the old parking lot and replace it with a new surface and new sidewalks.

Mr. Messore said closing the playground and surrounding fields is a matter of public safety. He added that the property will be off-limits to the public for the next six weeks, at least.

The new parking lot and sidewalks are part of the district's health and safety improvements. The parking lot project will cost $824,430; it will be funded through the school department's capital reserve budget. The project is eligible for 39 percent reimbursement from the state.

Barrington school officials selected D'Ambra Construction Company as the lowest qualified bidder for the project.
