Letter: Thanking voters

To the editor:

I would like to thank the voters who voted for me on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

For me, the experience provided an opportunity to meet many Barrington residents who expressed support for the issue of having an all-day vote on the town’s budget. Others also expressed a fear of being taxed out of their homes, and many long-time residents with children no longer at home felt that the time has come to move out of town because they are dissatisfied with the political climate that has centered solely around schools.

If I had been elected, I hoped to have started a dialogue about changing the current political views of being satisfied with the present voting process and political climate and move toward a more diverse agenda. Hopefully we can find new leadership on the town council who will step up and move the town forward based on the founding principles of American democracy. All eligible voters should have the right to cast their vote on a ballot rather than to stand up at a meeting to be counted.

Secondly, the property tax exemption for seniors is not fair to those who have resided in town for many years and no longer have children in the school system. They have paid their fair share of taxes for years and would like to remain in town.

Thank you,

John Taylor
