John G. Conner, of Middle Highway, Barrington, died on Friday, March 29, 2019 at his home.

John was born in Wheeling, W.Va. on Nov. 19, 1929, to Robert A. and Carolyn G. Conner. An accomplished musician and music teacher, John received a Bachelor of Music degree from the institution presently known as the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He thereafter performed as a clarinetist with various musical groups and taught music at several public schools in Ohio. John served in the United State Air Force in the 1950’s, and during that period he performed with the Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra at concerts throughout Europe.

John moved from Cincinnati to Barrington in the 1990’s and thereafter played for several years with the Rhode Island Wood Ensemble. In his later years he continued to evidence his love of music by singing in the choirs of both St. John’s Church in Barrington and St. Michael’s Church in Bristol.

John is survived by his sister, Constance Torrance, formerly of Barrington and now of Vero Beach, Fla., and his two nephews, David and Kimball Torrance.

John will be very much missed, not only by his family but also by his many friends at the Barrington Senior Center, which over the past several years played an increasingly important and valued role in John’s daily life.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at St. Michael’s Church in Bristol on Friday, May 10, at 11 a.m.
