Annual event offers great food, raffles and more

Everything is in place for the third annual Holy Angels Parish Feast of the Assumption Italian Food Festival.

The event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 5 to 8:30 p.m., in the air conditioned, fully accessible Church Hall at 341 Maple Ave. Everyone is invited and admission is free.

“We had a great turnout last year,” said parishioner and Food Festival Committee member Judy Pine, “and we’re hoping for another great turnout this year.”

The event, which is being held in a “fun and casual setting,” will offer delicious eat-in/take-out dinner options.

“And, all who attend will have a chance to win fabulous prizes,” noted Parish Summer Events Committee member, Shawn DeHart. “The Committee cordially welcomes and encourages the public to come and celebration the festivities at this happening.”

As usual, Italian-American foods will spice up the menu. Included will be sliced pizza, baked pasta, meatballs, pasta e fagioli (pasta & beans), sausage and peppers, eggplant parmigiana, spinach calzones, creamy pesto tortellini, fried mozzarella sticks, and more…all at family-friendly prices.

Other key committee members include Luigi and Carmela Carusi, John and Barbara St. Angelo, Steven and Paula DiOrio, Joe and Judy Pine, Lori and Peter Acciardo, Bart and Patty Stanzione, Lorraine Derois, Peter and Sue DeAngelis, and Bob and Gail Read.

The feature raffle will be prizes of $500, $200, $100, and $50. Raffle tickets (book of six) are available and cost $5 per book. Please call Judy at (401) 247-0212.

For the Treasure Chest Raffle, parishioners are asked to fill the Festival Treasure Chest with donations of loose change or dollar bills. One lucky person will win the money that is placed in the treasure chest.

There will also be a Pick-Your-Prize Raffle, where people can decide which items they wish to win and buy as many raffle tickets for those items they want.

“We’re raffling off Josh Groban concert tickets for his performance at TD Garden in Boston this November,” said Mr. DeHart. “Those tickets are courtesy of the Boston radio station Magic 106.7.”

Among the other raffle items are a Dooney & Bourke satchel, tickets for a Pawtucket Red Sox game at McCoy Stadium, tickets for a Providence Bruins game during the 2018-2019 regular season, a round of golf for four at Montaup Country Club, an Amazon Fire TV with "Alexa” voice remote (donated by the Law Offices of Ronald J. Resmini, LTD), an autographed photo of Boston Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello, and many other gift certificates and prizes.

“Also for purchase at this event will be children’s grab bags filled with assorted novelties, delicious cookies, cakes, and other treats, homemade by members of the Holy Angels Women’s Guild,” said Mr. DeHart.

Like so many others who attend this event, longtime parishioner Clara DeSpirito says the Italian Food Festival has begun to become a favorite with parishioners and visitors alike.

“It’s always a good time,” she said. “I really look forward to the event. This year, my daughters and I donated a $100 Shaw’s gift certificate for the raffle.”
