Rod's Grille transformed (temporarily) into pizza parlor for AMC series

Let’s get the most important news out of the way first: No, Rod’s Grille has not been sold and renamed “Pedro Pascual’s Pizza Palace.”

Passers-by might have been forgiven for thinking the worst if they saw the landmark Washington Street restaurant Monday morning, as the front windows were reverse-painted with the supposed new name.

But Rod’s is safe and sound; the place was just taken over for the day by filming crews working on “NOS4A2,” an upcoming series for AMC. The series’ first season, 10 episodes worth, will air next year.

“NOS4A2” is based on the horror novel of the same name written by Joe Hill, the son of legend Stephen King, and like his father’s work, it is a horror tale and a new take on the classic vampire fable.

Warren residents who are curious to see their town on the small screen should have plenty of other opportunities after shooting concludes at Rod’s.

According to the Rhode Island Film Office and Warren Town Manager Kate Michaud, the majority of the shooting for the first season is taking place in Rhode Island. Here in Warren, crews will return in early October to shoot more scenes at both the George Hail Library and the Warren Town Clerk’s Office. The shooting at town hall will necessitate the moving of some of the clerk’s duties to other parts of the building, but Ms. Michaud said that shouldn’t be a problem.

“We’ll shuffle people around,” she said.

Other nearby locations include a private home on Barrington’s Cedar Drive.
