Town officials are offering a great opportunity to show your appreciation for living in Barrington: Volunteer for a board or commission.

The Barrington Town Council is looking for volunteers to serve on a variety of boards. There are currently openings on the Barrington Board of Assessment Review, the Park and Recreation Committee, the Planning Board, the Housing Board of Trustees, and the Senior Services Advisory Board.

The positions don't pay much — actually, they don't pay anything — but they are all important.

Barrington, like all other towns, relies on volunteers to help keep local government, local sports leagues, local school PTO boards and more, functioning smoothly. The work can be challenging (just try organizing a fund-raiser for one of our local schools), and it can sometimes be pretty thankless.

But the reward for hard-working volunteers is quite impressive: A beautiful town, a high-achieving school department, successful youth sports leagues, and beautiful parks and open spaces.
