Dorothy "Del" Lloyd Drummey died at Falmouth Hospital on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017 after a short illness with her family at her side. She was 80 years old.

Del lived a long and rewarding life. She was born near Chicago and moved to Barrington early in her life. There she attended the Lincoln School. Later, she attended Smith College and traveled through Europe as part of a traveling choir. After marrying Charles E. Drummey, she moved to Simsbury, Conn. and joined the Simsbury Light Opera Company where she performed many leading soprano roles in Gilbert and Sullivan operas for 25 years. She raised four boys, Robert, Brian, Todd, and Scott Drummey. She has 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Del is also survived by her younger sister Sheila Pellegrini of Austria, her husband Giorgio, and their three children.

Del came from a distinguished and honored family. Her father was Henry D. Lloyd, grandson of the well-known 19th century journalist and author Henry Demarest Lloyd. Her mother was Norah Keating, daughter of Reginald Victor Hamilton Keating of St. Catherine's, Ontario, Canada. Other ancestors include William Armstrong, a 19th century watercolor artist and engineer from Montreal whose paintings still hang in museums across Canada.

Del spent many summers at her home in Menauhant and moved there full-time in 1995. She especially enjoyed spending time in the beautiful gardens she planted. She was a member of the Falmouth Garden Club for many years. During winters, Del often spent time at her home in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. where she would spend the day swimming and snorkeling among the many tropical fish and the occasional sea turtle. In her younger days, she enjoyed sailing her beetle cat sailboat, wildlife photography, and singing and teaching children in the local church choir.

Giving back to the community was always important to Del and her family. Del gave generously to many local charities including the Falmouth Hospital, Falmouth Service Center, First Church of Christ in Falmouth, The Community Health Center of Cape Cod in Mashpee, and the Falmouth Public Library. She also contributed to her alma mater, Smith College, Connecticut Opera, and The Lloyd Center for the Environment in Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the family foundation which will support local charities: D.E.L.D Foundation, c/o Robert Drummey, 3790 Stoughton Road, Collegeville, PA 19426.
