Dispute surfaces over Nockum Hill property

Property owner says farm is using his land without permission

Posted

Barrington police responded to a boundary line dispute on George Street near the Nockum Hill property last week.

On Thursday, Sept. 13, police traveled to George Street after someone complained that a man was removing bushes and other vegetation on land trust property.

Police spoke to the man — he owns a plot of land that abuts the trust property. He allegedly told police that farmers from nearby Four Town Farm had been growing and harvesting crops on his land without his permission. (The property owner said the land had previously belonged to his parents, but was now his.)

Town officials have been aware of the property line dispute and asked the property owner to have his land surveyed. The land owner said that's exactly what he was trying to do — he said he was using a backhoe to clear brush so that surveyors could find the boundary markers.

No one was charged, and the town is waiting to see the results of the survey.
