Church's ham and bean dinner continues to please

Holy Angels Church also planning pasta dinner for Oct. 25

The annual Holy Angels Church Ham and Beans Dinner was served last Thursday evening in the Church Hall, and as is the usual case when this parish sponsors a food-type event, the results were most satisfying.

The menu consisted of hand-carved ham, baked beans, sautéed broccoli, coleslaw, mac and cheese, cornbread, dessert, and coffee. A 50/50 raffle was also drawn at the event.

For many years, the Holy Angels Church kitchen staff has served up many memorable meals, the Ham and Bean dinner being no exception. Take-out business was also brisk as parishioners and friends started arriving early to get a taste of the good stuff.

Some people were overheard saying how much they enjoyed the baked beans, which had a particularly pleasing taste. And, the ham was as good as it gets.

“We did very well,” said longtime committee member Barbara St. Angelo. “We prepared two days in advance for this event. Everyone seemed to have a good time. We had a good crowd and a lot of takeouts.”

The evening’s activities began with a pre-meal prayer. Those in attendance were then welcomed by committee public relations chairman Shawn DeHart.

“I was able to speak with a lot of our guests,” said Mr. DeHart. “Everyone was saying how good the food was and how much of it was served for the price."

"I'm not a parishioner here (at Holy Angels Church), but I've been coming to all the dinners,” said Arlene Sanders. “I think anyone who doesn't is really missing out. The food is always delicious."

The next event is the Holy Angels Church annual Fall Pasta Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 25. The meal consists of hearty minestrone soup, antipasto, pasta and meatballs, bread and butter, dessert and coffee. Ticket sales will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Tickets will be available at the Parish Office during the week and before and after weekend Masses.
