Betty A. Harrower, 96, of Barrington

Betty A. Harrower, 96, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 in Providence, RI. She was the wife of the late Robert M. Harrower. Born in Barrington, she was the daughter of the late Burton R. Taylor and Rosa E. Swedberg and sister of the late Burton A. Taylor.

Betty is survived by her four children: Judy and her husband Joe of Narragansett, Nancy and her husband David of East Greenwich, Robert Jr. and his wife Kathy of Everett, Wash., and Kristen and her husband John of North Scituate. She was also the grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of six. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Betty was a lifelong Barrington resident; she was born, raised and lived in the same neighborhood almost her entire life. Growing up she loved swimming off Annawamscutt Beach and shared that love with her family. Betty also enjoyed antiquing, bird watching, gardening and spending time with her family.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to INSIGHT, 43 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick, RI 02888 or Saints Matthew and Mark Episcopal Church, 5 Chapel St., Barrington, RI 02806.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Saints Matthew and Mark Episcopal Church, 5 Chapel St., Barrington, RI at 12 PM. Burial will be private.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
