Barry P. Poland, 64

Barry P. Poland, 64, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Charlesgate Nursing Home in Providence.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John O. and Sandra R. (Boren) Poland.

Barry had a passion for the outdoors and loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed working on cars. He was a giving person who would help anyone in need.

He leaves one son, John P. Poland of Bristol, one sister, Linda Ferria of Barrington, two brothers, Kerry J. Poland of Bristol and Randy P. Poland of East Providence and many nieces nephews. He was the brother of the late Leslie D. Poland.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence. His funeral and burial will be private.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
