Goalie Caileigh Durkin makes key save with time running out

Barrington High School's Caileigh Durkin made possibly the biggest save of the season on Sunday afternoon, sliding in front of a last-second Moses Brown shot to secure a 2-1 victory for the Eagles in the Division I field hockey state championship game.

Durkin finished the game with eight saves, but the stop on Moses Brown standout Kari Buonanno as the final horn sounded sent the Barrington team into a celebration. Moses Brown had been undefeated, including 4-0 and 4-3 wins over the Eagles in the regular season.

Barrington's offense struck first during the state championship game, which was played at Bryant University. About halfway through the first half, Noelle Texeira shot the ball toward the Quakers' goal — the partially-blocked shot flew high in the air and into the goal.

About three minutes later, Madelyn Cox scored Barrington's second goal of the game. Texeira tallied the assist.

Barrington played solid defense throughout the game. Eventually, the Quakers were able to cut the lead in half, but Durkin's save at the end of the game capped a stellar defensive effort for the Eagles.
