Barrington High School hosted the second debate tournament of the 2017-2018 season on Nov. 18, and won a number of top awards.
More than 150 debaters from eight area high schools participated (Barrington, Classical, Cumberland, East Greenwich, Foxborough Regional Charter School, Lincoln, Mount Hope, and Wheeler) in the tournament.
Barrington captured three of the top five varsity team awards: Daniel Sheinberg and Jonny Zhang (ranked #2), Emily Sancomb and Lexi Anderson (#3), and Jack DeLuca and Will Short (#4).
Barrington also won three of the five top varsity awards for individual speaker: Jack Killilea (#3), Madhri Yehiya (#4), and Sam Turner (#5).
A top novice team award went to Harry Dunn and Lucian Fairbrother (#3), while Harry Dunn (#2) and Noelle Faiza (#4) were recognized as top novice individual speakers.
Many other Barrington students also placed in the tournament — scoring in the top 25 percent of all debaters.

• Varsity teams: Christian Odjakjian and Jack Killilea, Christina Curran and Kiera Roche, Amanda Woodard and Katie Hoag, Olivia Tutt and Zub McConaghy, Sam Turner and Henry Johnson.
• Novice debaters, individual speaker awards: Xan Maddock-Mark, Chip Kreuzcamp, Jagger Pacheco, Aryana Mohammadi.
• Novice teams: Lisa Zhukov and Noelle Faiza, Chip Kreuzcamp and Joe Wicker.
