The Barrington Middle School PTO is conducting a brick fund-raiser — people across town are invited to purchase a personalized engraved brick that will be placed in a commemorative walkway at the new Barrington Middle School.
Each brick costs $50 and can include three lines of engraved text.
"The BMS PTO are excited about the opportunity to have a place to remember the families that supported the PTO and will allow us to bring in exciting programs (such as guest speakers and authors) and to purchase items that enhance and enrich the education of the students at BMS," stated a recent press release from the organization.
The brick fund-raiser is the first key fund-raiser the Barrington Middle School PTO has held in many years. Officials are hoping all people in town will participate, as the construction of the new school has been a community-wide effort.
"This has been a true commitment of the community," said Barrington Superintendent of Schools Michael Messore. "It's a great gesture on behalf of the PTO at the middle school."
Organizers of the brick fund-raiser worked with school officials to plan the event. Once the bricks are sold — officials are hoping to sell 700 bricks — they will be installed by the contractor. The engraved bricks will be placed on the pathway between the school and the parking lots and the athletic fields.

There are a few minor rules people must follow when ordering a brick. They can only include a family's name of individual names. Logos and sponsorships are not allowed, and people cannot have bricks engraved with "in memory of" messages, per a district policy. (Officials from the BMS PTO will review every brick engraving order and contact the individuals/families if changes need to be made.)
