Barrington freshman football team preps for championship game

Eagles will play against Hendricken on Sunday

The Barrington High School freshman football team will play for the Division I state championship on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles will face top-seeded Bishop Hendricken at noon. The game will be played at Johnston High School.

Barrington entered the postseason as the number two seed and defeated third-seed Cranston West 19-12 in the semifinals. Barrington's lone loss of the regular season was against Hendricken, 14-0. 

Hendricken defeated Portsmouth in the other Division I semifinal matchup, 42-14.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
