A steady rain fell across the state last Wednesday morning and turned Barrington High School's well-worn lacrosse field into a sloppy, muddy mess. Most of the year, the weather plays a significant role in the scheduling of sports practices and games at the high school. Too much rain means soft fields, and soft fields are easy prey for cleated athletes.

Two Barrington homes will receive plaques from the Barrington Preservation Society at its Monday, May 19 annual plaquing ceremony to be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Barrington Public Library. The society will honor the Martin-Wyman House (1883) at 37 Ferry Lane, a two-story Victorian home with a Colonial Revival gabled wing. The Martin family ran the ferry to Warren.
