Impact of storm beach damage at South Shore Beach still unclear

LITTLE COMPTON — Official estimates of damage done by recent storms Jose and Maria to Little Compton's South Shore Beach have yet to be made. However, Town Council President Robert Mushen, from out-of-town while traveling, said "the beach condition now is approximately what it typically is in the spring." Mr. Mushen referred queries to the beach commission, whose chairman. Bill Ryan, could not be reached despite several calls.

In Tiverton: Grinnell's Beach to get some sail shade

TIVERTON — The Tiverton Town Council last Tuesday night, Oct. 10, approved a contract to provide some real shade for Grinnell's Beach beach goers next season. It awarded a $47,000 contract for the construction of a "sail shade" area at the beach to Probuilt Designs, LLC, of Marshfield, Massachusetts.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
