TIVERTON — Some have wondered what happened to the playground equipment that used to be installed at the just-renovated Grinnell's Beach. Councilor Randy Lebeau posed the question at last week's council meeting, saying "somebody came to me today and asked me about a swing set" at the beach, or a soccer area. He didn't know anything about it, Mr. Lebeau said. And a letter writer (Jon Kemp, of Tiverton, see page 6) lamented the passage of the days when there were swings and slides at the beach for children of all ages to enjoy.

Charter complaint re-ignites Katz budget fight with Tiverton schools

TIVERTON — A Tiverton Municipal Court hearing on a charter complaint — that promises to be anything but routine — has been postponed to Thursday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m in the Community Room of the new Tiverton Library. The hearing had originally been set for this Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m., but at the request of the school committee and the four of its members named in the complaint, a postponement was granted late Tuesday, Oct. 18 by Municipal Court Judge James A. Donnelly Jr., to allow the parties more time to prepare.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
