Want to have your art featured on Warren's new sculpture pad?

Posted

The Warren Arts and Cultural Commission (WACC) recently announced the launch of an inaugural Rotating Sculpture Program located along the bike path at Child Street and Railroad Avenue.

One sculpture will be selected and exhibited between July 2024 and June 2025. A $2,000 honorarium will be paid to the selected artist, as well as public recognition.

The sculpture will be located in a very high-traffic area and can not present a hazard to public safety. Artwork must be able to withstand varying temperatures and outdoor elements.

Program Guidelines

  • Pieces must be aesthetically appropriate for display in a public space. Artwork should serve to activate and enhance the public space. When reviewing pieces for consideration, safety to the public and durability will be priorities for acceptance.
  • Height shall not create a balance hazard.
  • The sculpture must be able to be structurally secured to a concrete pad with bolts.
  • Materials should be able to withstand the weather and elements.
  • Selected Artwork must be installed by July 15, 2024 and removed by the end of June 2025.
  • The Artist may sell the exhibiting artwork during the scheduled time period. However, exhibiting artwork may not be removed until the exhibition has concluded in June 2025.
  • The Artist will be responsible for identifying any existing or projected maintenance requirements and available for upkeep and maintenance throughout the duration of the exhibition.
  • The Artist is responsible for transporting, installing and removing the artwork in accordance with the timeline agreed upon with the Warren Arts and Cultural Commission. The Town Of Warren/WACC shall oversee installation.
  • The Artist is responsible for providing proof of general liability insurance.
  • The Artist will receive a $2,000 honorarium.
  • The Arts and Cultural Commission reserves the right to reject any and all proposals.

Selection process

Sculpture entries shall be scored by a jury consisting of community members and representatives from the Warren Arts and Cultural Commission. Artists from the top three scored pieces will be interviewed to discuss their sculpture. The selected artist must enter into a contractual agreement approved by the Town of Warren and provide proof of general liability insurance.

Exhibition deadlines and schedules

  • Submission deadline: On or before May 21, 2024 at midnight.
  • Interviews and artist notifications: by June 6, 2024
  • Installation dates: July 1 - 15, 2024 (to be coordinated with WACC and DPW)
  • Take-down dates (responsibility of artist): June 15 - 30, 2025 (to be coordinated with WACC and DPW)

  • Up to 5 images of the SAME piece can be submitted per application.
  • If you wish to submit more than one piece of art, you must do so via separate applications. You can submit up to 3 different pieces, via 3 separate applications.
